Melna Jones

Melna Jones ICF ACC PMP

As a Strategic leader with a proven track record of building and leading effective cross-functional, multi-site and multi-business teams, driving change initiatives and implementing organizational strategies, Melna always believed that being a leader or a manager meant serving someone else – providing the tools, clearing the path, empowering others to do their job.  Her first management role was the best and the worst job she’d ever had. As she said, “I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I learned early on how important having a mentor or coach could be. Without one, I literally drowned those first two years in my position.”

Melna spent more than 24-years in leadership in the Federal Government and believes even more strongly now that coaching is a necessity to the growth and development of new leaders.  She has since retired from Federal Service and started “Simply Lead Coaching”.  Melna works with clients that are transitioning into first-time leadership or management roles.  She also works with those who have been at it for a while and are transitioning into higher-level positions.  Melna guides them in understanding their new role and what becoming a manager involves, in developing the core skills needed to excel and supports them in creating a path forward to achieve their desired results.  Melna finds great joy in helping others to become that great leader they always wanted to work for.

Testimonial 1:  Coaching – Career Transition

I have been using Simply Lead Coaching services for approximately one year. I did not actively seek out assistance until I started to seriously look for another career path, and I knew I could not do it alone. Prior to interviewing for my current role, I went to Simply Lead Coaching and asked for guidance with interview preparation for the interview, as it has a potential for a leadership role. Melna coached me in preparing for the interviews and we plotted out my 90-day plan, if I were hired. I believe that the preparation was the reason that I was confident in the interview process, and was later offered the position.
My coaching did not stop once I was hired, and we continue to prepare for the management opportunity that is on the horizon. I recommend anyone who may be seeking another career path, or just assistance with the interview process, to consider Simply Lead Coaching as a tool for success.

Testimonial 2:  Coaching – Career and Leadership

I reached out to Melna at Simply Lead Coaching when I decided I wanted to pursue a Management position. I was impressed as my entire thought process regarding interviewing was changed and I was able to feel confident and secure in my abilities as I went into the interview. I was no longer attempting to “memorize” what I wanted to say, but simply spoke from my experiences, and allowed my strengths to shine through. Thank you, Simply Lead Coaching, for your amazing abilities which allowed me to secure the leadership position I was hoping for.

Testimonial 3:  Coaching –  Leadership and Management

Melna is one of the finest individuals that I have ever had the opportunity and pleasure to work with. She has a visible passion for coaching and people development. She is kind, caring and extremely knowledgeable regarding business practices, trends and helping you discover your passion and interests. Melna is a superb communicator, who has helped me develop my personal mission and vision statement and action plan to achieve my career and educational goals. More importantly, she truly values the work, provides constructive feedback, and challenges you to maximize your potential. She takes an avid interest in the success and morale of each of her clients and is an excellent motivator and coach. She has a knack for finding client’s strengths and utilizing them to increase growth and creativity. I would recommend Melna and Simply Lead Coaching to anyone.

Testimonial 4:  Coaching – Career

In 2014, I may have been at my lowest point in terms of my professional career. I was in a position where I felt underappreciated and underutilized, and it was beginning to take a toll on my confidence and my outlook on myself. I was pondering new career paths, but I found that I did not have the energy to really get started on that road, nor did I really know what I wished to accomplish.

I was fortunate enough to work with Melna and her company,, and to say that she was a huge catalyst in where I am now is an understatement. She helped set up a road map to follow every day, whether it was to find something that I wanted to really do and look at ways to pursue it, or convincing me to re-apply myself in terms of higher education. She also was consistent with follow up meetings, checking in to see how my progress was coming along, and helping me push through in points where I did not know if I could move forward.

I don’t know where I’d be right now without Melna and Simply Lead Coaching, but it scares me to think about it. God blessed me with a wonderful coach at the time when I needed her the most, and I will gladly endorse and recommend her for any coaching job. She never took it easy on me, which I appreciated. Despite being family, her professionalism always was at the forefront, and her wisdom still resonates.

How can you avoid failing as a new leader, and learn from other leaders’ mistakes rather than making so many of your own?  Transitioning of any kind is challenging, particularly when you take on a new Leadership role.  There’s going to be a learning curve and in most cases, the skills and individual contributions that got you into the new position are simply not enough to help you stay there.  In this workshop, we’ll discuss where you’ll need to focus to move forward quickly with a solid plan that positions you for success.

Assessments    Contact us for rate information

V360 Degree Feedback     The 360 Degree Feedback solicits feedback regarding an employee’s behavior from a variety of points of view (subordinate, lateral, and supervisory). Organizations have most commonly utilized 360-degree feedback for developmental purposes, providing it to employees to assist them in developing work skills and behaviors. However, organizations are increasingly using 360-degree feedback in performance evaluations and employment decisions.

Values Assessment   The Values Assessment helps you identify your “Why”.  When you are clear about what your values are, it is easy to understand your drivers and motivations for doing things.  You can actively build your decisions, actions, and vision for a better you, a better career or life around them.  Through a facilitated process, you will discover knowing your values can act as your compass to help give direction to what, how and why you do what you do every day.

Career & Life Wheel      Commonly used by professional life & career coaches, it helps you consider each area of your life or work and assess where you are at.  It helps you identify where you would like to give priority and areas that need more attention. The Wheel is a powerful tool to give you a vivid visual representation of the way your life or work is currently, compared to what you’d ideally like it to be.  Our professionally certified coaches can help you identify gaps in the wheel, and map out action plans to get you where you want or need to be.
